Tragedy struck at the construction site of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in north Phoenix as a waste disposal truck driver lost his life in an apparent accident.

On Wednesday, Phoenix Police responded to reports of an incident at the construction site near Dove Valley and 43rd Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m. on May 15.

Accident Details

Phoenix Fire arrived first at the scene, where they found 41-year-old Cesar Anguiano-Guitron, the truck driver, in critical condition. Despite efforts to save him, Anguiano-Guitron succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

According to investigators, Anguiano-Guitron was transporting waste material away from the construction site when the incident occurred. Sergeant Phil Krynsky explained, [Anguiano-Guitron] was made aware of a possible issue involving the tank containing the material, which was stored under pressure. He further elaborated that during an inspection of the equipment, an uncontrolled pressure release led to Anguiano-Guitron being struck by a blunt object and thrown over 20 feet from the trailer, resulting in life-threatening injuries.

TSMC Statement

In response to the incident, TSMC issued a statement confirming the occurrence but emphasizing that no employees or construction workers at the site were harmed. The company stated, We are aware of an incident that occurred today at our Arizona construction site whereby a waste disposal truck driver was transported to a local hospital. No TSMC employees or onsite construction workers have reported any related injuries. There was no damage to our facilities. We are working closely with local authorities. This is an active investigation, and no additional details can be shared at this time.
