A man was fatally shot while doing yard work in Long Beach, California, sparking concerns among residents about safety in the area.
Victim Identified as Mario Morales-Moreno
Homicide detectives in Long Beach have identified the victim as Mario Morales-Moreno, a 51-year-old man who tragically lost his life in the incident.
The shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m. Thursday along the 600 block of 61st Street in Long Beach. Another individual sustained gunshot wounds to the leg but is expected to survive.
According to witnesses, Morales-Moreno was outside tending to his yard when the shooting occurred.

In an emotional tribute on Instagram, Morales-Moreno’s alleged niece described him as a war veteran who had retired from the Army just two years prior. The loss of Morales-Moreno has undoubtedly left a void in the community.

Authorities have clarified that these shootings are unrelated, but the string of violence has heightened concerns among locals.

In response to the recent violence, law enforcement has increased patrols and engagement efforts in the area. Following the incident, three individuals were detained, with one found in possession of a firearm and subsequently arrested. However, their involvement in the shooting remains under investigation.
