Finksburg (WBFF) — A tragic incident in Carroll County late last night resulted in the death of a 41-year-old father and injuries to his 7-year-old son after their vehicle collided with a car and a dump truck.
Incident Details
On May 31 around 11:30 p.m., Geoffrey Brittingham was driving northbound on Emory Road at Cedarhurst Road. The Maryland State Police report suggests that Brittingham failed to stop for a closed construction zone at the North Branch Patapsco River bridge replacement project. Consequently, his vehicle struck the rear of a 2014 Volvo Excavator and a Mack Dump Truck.
Geoffrey Brittingham, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was driving a 2022 Ford Explorer involved in the crash. Brittingham’s 7-year-old son, who was a passenger in the back seat, sustained injuries and was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment.
Construction Zone and Road Closure
It’s noted that the long-term construction zone was inactive during the incident. However, authorities emphasize that the MD 91 bridge will remain closed for an extended period. Motorists are advised to follow detour routes via MD 30 and MD 140.
