Fort Worth, Texas – Following a drive-by shooting earlier this month outside the Mirimar Apartments in west Fort Worth, six individuals, including 3-year-old Me’Chelle Kinney, have been on the road to recovery. Me’Chelle, who spent 16 days in the hospital, was among those injured in the tragic incident.
Dontee Kinney, the father of Me’Chelle and her 6-year-old brother, shared details of the harrowing ordeal, stating, It came in right side under her armpit came out lower right about the hip. She lost her right kidney, and it went through her liver.

Community members, deeply affected by the incident, rallied together in support of the victims, congregating at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Kyev Tatum emphasized the importance of solidarity during such trying times, stating, We are going to walk with these families and the community through this tragedy and through the trauma that they are experiencing.
Among the victims is 19-year-old Tanzania Day, who sustained injuries to her leg, requiring the assistance of crutches for mobility. Day’s aunt, Janiell Gray, described the emotional toll of the incident, highlighting Day’s ongoing struggle with trauma.

Surveillance footage captured a red Kia Soul, allegedly involved in the shooting, with indications of shots being fired from the vehicle. The footage also depicted the chilling moment when bullets penetrated nearby apartments, narrowly missing a 9-year-old boy.
Marquita Devereux, whose son was grazed by a bullet, expressed the pervasive fear gripping the community, stating, They don’t go outside, none of these kids go outside. Some of the families aren’t even coming back from the community because of the gun violence.
