TLNA – Haus of Style, a fashion club at the University of Arizona, has recently undergone a significant transformation, shifting its focus from merely portfolio building to integrating fashion with philanthropy. Under the leadership of President Julia Gray, Haus of Style now emphasizes spreading happiness and joy throughout Tucson. The club’s weekly meetings serve as a platform for students to engage in projects aimed at giving back to the community. These projects are simple yet meaningful, with recent activities including decorating tote bags destined for donation to a local food bank.

Small Acts, Big Impact

The essence of Haus of Style’s approach lies in the belief that acts of kindness, no matter how small, can have a significant impact. As Assistant to the President, Tori Ziegler points out, these initiatives are uplifting and don’t necessarily require significant financial investment. Ainsley Wells, a club member, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the joy derived from helping others feel good and have fun.

From Portfolio Building to Philanthropy

The idea of “fashion for philanthropy” emerged during winter break when President Gray realized that the club’s previous focus on portfolio building wasn’t fulfilling its potential to serve both its members and the community. This realization led to a rebranding effort, redirecting the club’s activities towards philanthropic endeavors.

To kickstart their new mission, club members organized a pop-up shop to sell their old clothes, raising funds to support their initiatives. This initial capital was used to purchase materials for their projects, enabling them to give back to the community in a tangible way.

Haus of Style’s inaugural projects, such as making blankets for animals at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, have already made a positive impact. President Gray expressed joy in seeing the animals enjoying the blankets decorated by club members, underscoring the heartwarming nature of their efforts.
