A Hesperia family faced a devastating loss as their U-Haul, containing all their belongings, was set on fire, leaving them in dire straits.
The Tragic Incident
Iman Metoyer, a mother of six, was preparing to move when their U-Haul parked outside their Hesperia apartment complex became the target of an arson attack. Metoyer recounted the ordeal, stating that the U-Haul contained their entire household – clothes, furniture, beds, and more.
Suspected Arson Attempt
Metoyer suspects that the perpetrator initially attempted to steal the U-Haul. Upon failure, they resorted to drilling a hole into the gas tank, likely in an effort to siphon gas, inadvertently causing an explosion and subsequent fire.
Investigation Underway
Authorities from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department are actively investigating the incident. Evidence of the attempted crime was found near the scene, including remnants of a red gas can and a drilled hole in the U-Haul’s gas tank. However, as of now, no suspects have been identified.
Repercussions and Support
The aftermath of the fire has left the family devastated, with Metoyer’s father describing the situation as tragic. They have lost everything they owned, amplifying the challenges of starting anew. In response, a GoFundMe page has been established to aid the family in rebuilding their lives.
Rebuilding After Tragedy
The unfortunate incident highlights the vulnerability of families during transitional periods like moving homes. It underscores the importance of community support during times of crisis. As the investigation continues, the affected family seeks not just justice but also the means to rebuild their lives from scratch.
