A tragic hit-and-run incident in the Las Vegas Valley has claimed the life of a 63-year-old man, highlighting ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety in the area.
Details of the Incident
Victim Identified
The victim, identified as Robert Patrick Tully, 63, passed away nearly two weeks after the hit-and-run collision, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
Crash Location
The incident occurred at approximately 1:56 a.m. near Charleston and the US 95, where Tully was sleeping inside a makeshift tent on the east side of Sandhill Road intersecting with Hawaii Avenue.
Sequence of Events
LVMPD reported that a 20-year-old driver, Yester Yancarlos Paz-Zavala from Utah, veered off-road and collided with Tully’s tent, resulting in fatal injuries to the pedestrian.
Arrest and Investigation
Paz-Zavala was arrested shortly after the crash and claimed he left the scene out of fear for his safety. However, police traced the vehicle’s registration to his mother, who urged him to surrender to authorities.
