NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Gregg Marsh, the IT director at TriStar Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, is being celebrated for his heroic act of donating a kidney to his best friend, Andy, who was battling kidney failure. The remarkable story of friendship and sacrifice has touched hearts across the community.

A Lifesaving Decision

Gregg Marsh’s friendship with Andy spans 38 years, with Andy even serving as the best man at Gregg’s wedding. When Andy’s health took a critical turn due to kidney failure last summer, Gregg knew he had to act. Despite the risks involved, Gregg made the courageous decision to donate one of his kidneys to save his friend’s life.

I had to do something, Gregg shared. Andy is one of my prayer brothers. There are three passages of scripture that helped lead me to make such an important decision.

The journey to the successful surgery in February was not without its challenges. Both Gregg and Andy faced numerous obstacles along the way, but their determination and the support of their loved ones saw them through. The surgery was a success, bringing hope and renewed health to Andy.

There is a friend who will stand closer than a brother, Gregg quoted. By this we know what love is: Jesus laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers, he added.
