Retired San Francisco Giants player, Hunter Pence, has teamed up with the YesSF coalition and his non-profit organization, the Healthy Planet Project, for a community cleanup event in downtown San Francisco. The collaborative effort, dubbed Pick up with Pence, aims to enhance sustainability and cleanliness in the city.
YesSF: A Catalyst for Urban Renewal
YesSF is a public-private partnership focused on revitalizing San Francisco by fostering innovative solutions to urban challenges. Formed in collaboration with the SF Chamber of Commerce, the World Economic Forum, Salesforce, and Citi, YesSF strives to attract startups and innovators dedicated to sustainability.
Alison Hagan, San Francisco Managing Principal for Deloitte, emphasized the importance of collaboration among various sectors in achieving YesSF’s goals. Deloitte, a founding partner of YesSF, provided volunteers for the cleanup event as part of its annual impact day.
Hunter Pence’s Commitment to Environmental Stewardship
Hunter Pence’s involvement through his non-profit, the Healthy Planet Project, underscores his dedication to environmental preservation. Launched approximately a year ago, the Healthy Planet Project focuses on initiatives such as cleanup campaigns, tree-planting endeavors, and educational programs for youth.
Yes SF is completely aligned with the same things that the Healthy Planet Project is aimed at doing, which is creating a sustainable San Francisco, stated Pence, highlighting the shared vision between YesSF and his organization.
Scaling Up for Greater Impact
YesSF’s efforts extend beyond individual initiatives, with plans to establish a new headquarters in downtown San Francisco. Scheduled to open in the fall, the headquarters will serve as a hub for supporting startup innovators dedicated to urban sustainability.
We had 150 submissions last year and chose 14 innovators. Today, the call to action was to hopefully get 300 people submitting, remarked Hagan, emphasizing the growing momentum behind YesSF’s initiatives.
Looking Ahead: A Vibrant Future for San Francisco
The collaboration between YesSF, Hunter Pence’s Healthy Planet Project, and other stakeholders signifies a concerted effort to enhance San Francisco’s livability and environmental quality. As Pence noted, the city is experiencing positive transformations, with increased vibrancy and cleanliness.
Just amazing to see the impact that they’ve made in just a year. You’re feeling the uprising. The city is getting more vibrant. There are more people walking around. It’s cleaner. It’s feeling safer. So it’s very exciting times, and we still have a lot left to do in the movement, Pence remarked enthusiastically.
