A fatal shootout with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers resulted in the death of a man identified as 31-year-old Luis Duran-Ruano.

The incident unfolded near the intersection of 33rd Street and Georgetown Road on Sunday night. Officers responded to reports of shots fired just before 7:30 p.m. Witnesses helped identify Duran-Ruano as a suspect, leading to a confrontation with law enforcement.
Escalation and Response
Despite attempts to stop him, Duran-Ruano fled in a vehicle, prompting a brief pursuit that ended on Winton Avenue. Exiting his vehicle, he brandished a firearm and threatened self-harm. Crisis negotiators and a SWAT team were called to the scene in an effort to de-escalate the situation.
Turn of Events
After an hour of negotiation, Duran-Ruano attempted to flee again. When non-lethal tactics were employed, he opened fire on officers, prompting a return of gunfire. Duran-Ruano was critically wounded and later pronounced dead at Eskenazi Hospital.
