INDIANAPOLIS – Hoagies & Hops, a north side restaurant in Indianapolis with roots tracing back to Philadelphia, is gearing up to mark National Cheesesteak Day in a meaningful way. On Sunday, the establishment plans to donate 15% of its sales to the MLK Center, a non-profit organization serving the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood and other communities on the north side.
A Tradition of Giving Back
Owner Kristina Mazza, a Pennsylvania native, emphasizes the importance of community involvement for businesses like hers. Since opening in 2015 at 4155 Boulevard Place, Hoagies & Hops has made it a tradition to support the MLK Center on National Cheesesteak Day. This year marks the sixth consecutive year of their charitable initiative.
Setting Goals for Impact
Mazza reflects on the success of previous years, noting that in the previous year, they managed to donate $900. This time around, her aim is higher, with a target of $1,200 in donations. The neighboring Chilly Water Brewing Co. Taproom has also joined the cause, pledging to contribute 15% of its sales to the MLK Center on the same day.
Serving the Community’s Needs
The MLK Center, located at 40 W. 40th St., offers vital services to over a thousand families, including after-school programs, support groups, housing assistance, transportation, and more. Deputy Director Israel Shasanmi underscores the significance of these contributions, highlighting that all donations directly benefit the community by supporting essential programs and ensuring they remain accessible to those in need.
How to Participate
Those interested in supporting this cause can visit Hoagies & Hops at 4155 Boulevard Place between the hours of 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Sunday to contribute to the fundraising efforts. Additionally, Chilly Water Brewing Co. Taproom will also be participating in the initiative.
