A Kokomo resident was hospitalized after a car accident in south Kokomo on Wednesday evening.

According to a news release from the Kokomo Police Department, the incident occurred at the intersection of US 931 and Country Lane around 9:45 p.m. The accident involved a pedestrian and resulted in serious bodily injury.

Initial investigations suggest that a 20-year-old Kokomo resident was walking northbound on the east side of the road when the accident happened. The driver, identified as a 34-year-old Indianapolis resident, was traveling north on US 931.
The pedestrian reportedly attempted to cross the road, moving west, when he was struck by the driver in the west lane of northbound traffic.
Assistance Rendered
An off-duty deputy from Cass County and a physician who happened to be passing by provided aid to the injured pedestrian until the arrival of the Kokomo Fire Department.
Medical Response
The pedestrian was initially taken to a local hospital and later transported to a hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment.
