Law enforcement agencies in Denver are cautioning celebrants of the unofficial cannabis holiday on April 20 to plan ahead and avoid driving under the influence of marijuana.

Sam Cole, traffic safety manager for the Colorado Department of Transportation, emphasized the importance of responsible behavior, stating, We know that a lot of people are going to be partaking in cannabis this weekend, and we just hope they don’t drive, because if they do that could be a huge mistake.

Trooper Gabriel Moltrer from the Colorado State Patrol highlighted that law enforcement would be on high alert throughout the weekend, monitoring for signs of impairment. He compared the effects of cannabis to alcohol, stating, We’re going to be looking for impairment throughout the weekend. We are going to be looking for anything that shows impairment, from driving actions to when we get up to vehicles and seeing if we find impairment while talking with the driver as well.
