A lithium battery malfunction sparked a blaze, displacing a family of four in Raleigh’s Five Points area.
Incident Details
The fire erupted at 539 Guilford Circle, situated between Anderson Drive and East Whitaker Mill Road, around 12:10 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Raleigh Fire Battalion Chief Robert Hodge reported that the fire was contained by 12:35 p.m. and completely extinguished by 1 p.m. The incident occurred in The Oaks At Fallon Park neighborhood.
No Injuries Reported
Fortunately, there were no injuries resulting from the fire. However, the family, comprising two adults and two children, was forced to evacuate their home.
Cause of the Fire
Battalion Chief Hodge stated that the fire originated from a lithium battery within a bicycle stored in the garage area of the house. This incident underscores the potential hazards associated with lithium batteries.
Response Efforts
A swift response was mounted, with 35 firefighters swiftly arriving at the scene to combat the blaze. Fire crews were observed cutting a hole in the roof of a section of the home above the garage, as captured by NEWS.ORG 17 Sky Eye video.
Displacement and Support
Despite the absence of injuries, the displaced family faces the challenge of finding temporary accommodations. Fortunately, they have found refuge with family and friends while they navigate this difficult period.
