Louisville Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Shooting Pregnant Woman
Louisville, Ky. – Devin Minor, the man responsible for the intentional shooting of pregnant woman Darriona Jones almost two years ago, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Tragic Incident: Shooting of Pregnant Woman
In July 2022, Devin Minor tragically shot Darriona Jones in the torso. Jones, who was pregnant at the time, succumbed to her injuries along with her unborn child. Shockingly, the unborn child was revealed to be Minor’s own.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
Following the incident, Minor faced charges of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree fetal homicide. After a trial, a Louisville jury found him guilty on both counts on March 28.
Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina Whethers expressed condolences to the victims’ family, highlighting the loss of both a mother and her unborn child. Whethers emphasized the commitment to seeking justice for families and innocent individuals in the city.
Minor received a 20-year sentence for manslaughter and a 10-year sentence for fetal homicide. These sentences are to be served consecutively, resulting in a total of 30 years in prison. Notably, the imposed sentence aligns with the jury’s recommendation.
Parole Eligibility and Sentence Details
Minor’s sentencing includes a stipulation that he is not eligible for probation or shock probation. Moreover, he must serve 85% of his sentence before being considered for parole.
