In a tragic incident in suburban Aurora, a man attempted to fatally shoot a woman before taking his own life early Monday morning. The event unfolded on the 700 block of Charles Street, where officers responded to a report of an armed man inside a residence at 7:31 a.m., according to Aurora police.

Upon arrival, officers heard a gunshot from inside the home. Subsequently, a 43-year-old woman, who had sustained gunshot wounds, emerged from the residence. She was swiftly transported to a local hospital and is currently in serious condition.

As law enforcement officials continued to converge on the scene, the assailant fled in a vehicle. However, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office intercepted him around 10:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Cottage Road in Wilmington. Tragically, the man took his own life, ending the pursuit.
