Mount Airy, N.C. – A man faces charges following a break-in at a church in Surry County.
Suspect Identified and Items Stolen
The Surry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a breaking and entering at Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Airy. Upon arrival, authorities discovered extensive damage within the premises.
After investigation, the authorities identified the suspect as Johnathon Samuel Nichols, 34, of Mount Airy. Nichols is accused of causing damage to the church’s doors, windows, and walls. Reportedly, he stole various items, including an electric guitar, costume white angel wings, an electric microphone, a crown of thorns, a collectible framed script, and business documents.
Recovery and Charges
Shortly after the incident was reported, the suspect was apprehended at the Food Lion in Mount Airy, where some of the stolen items were recovered.
Nichols faces multiple charges, including breaking and entering a place of worship, larceny after breaking and entering, injuring a building/fence/wall, possessing stolen goods, injury to personal property, and larceny.
Legal Proceedings
Johnathon Samuel Nichols was assigned a $63,500.00 secured bond following his arrest.
