A man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his involvement in the 2013 shooting death of a 20-year-old from Highland Park, with the victim, Colin Nutter, being robbed and killed after arranging a marijuana sale.
Philip Vatamaniuc’s Sentencing
Philip Vatamaniuc, convicted for his role in the murder, received his sentencing on Friday, totaling 54 years in prison with three years of supervision post-release. Vatamaniuc was part of a trio that included Benjamin Schenk and Michael Coffee, who arranged to purchase marijuana from Nutter in 2013 but ended up fatally shooting him and discarding his body along the Edens Expressway in Wilmette.
Michael Coffee’s Plea
Michael Coffee, another individual involved, had previously pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received his sentencing in Lake County court on Tuesday. Coffee’s plea marked a significant development in the case, shedding light on the events leading to Nutter’s tragic death.
