A wanted man, identified as Jason Norris, met his demise in a police-involved shooting in North Ridgeville, Ohio, as reported by local authorities.
Wanted for Homicide in Tennessee
Norris, 41, was the subject of a homicide warrant issued in White County, Tennessee, where he was accused of killing his girlfriend. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with Norris allegedly stealing his victim’s SUV following the crime.
Police Response and Exchange of Gunfire
North Ridgeville police were alerted to the presence of the stolen vehicle by a license plate reader. Tennessee authorities informed local law enforcement about Norris’s armed and dangerous status. Tracking the vehicle to a residence on James Road, which was occupied by Norris’s grandmother and cousin, police were unaware of the alleged homicide. The family members stated that Norris had mentioned a fight with his girlfriend, leading them to believe he needed space.
As officers established a perimeter around the residence on Wednesday evening, Norris emerged with another individual. According to North Ridgeville Police Chief Mike Freeman, an exchange of gunfire occurred after officers issued commands. Two local police officers discharged their weapons, with one shot striking Norris in the upper torso. Remarkably, neither officer sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Investigation and Administrative Leave
Following the incident, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Crime Scene Unit and Special Investigations Unit were dispatched to the scene. The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, a standard protocol in cases of police-involved shootings, as confirmed by Chief Freeman.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting and Norris’s death are under investigation by the appropriate authorities.
