Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has unveiled two new Inside Safe operations over the weekend, marking a significant step in the city’s ongoing efforts to address homelessness. The initiative, aimed at housing Angelenos living in encampments and preventing their return, has gained traction under the leadership of Mayor Bass.

Inside Safe Operation in Shadow Hills

On Sunday, Mayor Bass announced the Inside Safe operation in the Shadow Hills area of the San Fernando Valley. The operation targeted an encampment that had persisted for four years, situated near the Big Tujunga Creek under Interstate 210. Over 20 individuals from the encampment were brought inside and provided with supportive services by various organizations, including LA Family Housing, Healthcare In Action, the Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority, and the county Department of Mental Health.

This action not only addresses the immediate housing needs of the individuals but also signifies the city’s commitment to tackling large homeless encampments effectively.

Collaboration and Cooperation

Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, representing the Seventh District which includes the encampment area, emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing homelessness. She highlighted the cooperative efforts across different levels of government to address environmental concerns, mitigate fire risks, and provide interim housing solutions.

Inside Safe Operation in East Hollywood

On Saturday, another Inside Safe operation took place in East Hollywood, near Bright Childhood Daycare. Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez joined Mayor Bass in this initiative, which resulted in more than 20 Angelenos being brought inside and offered supportive services.

Soto-Martinez emphasized the success of such operations, citing it as the sixth successful one in their district. This underscores the effectiveness of investing in housing, mental health, and addiction treatment as essential components of addressing homelessness.

Continuing Efforts and Commitment

Mayor Bass reiterated the city’s dedication to addressing the homelessness crisis, emphasizing the urgency with which they have approached the issue. She noted the significant increase in bringing individuals inside over the past year, reflecting a shift in the city’s approach towards finding long-term solutions.

We have changed the way we address this crisis, stated Mayor Bass. Today’s Inside Safe operation in the San Fernando Valley continues our work to connect participants with housing and supportive services.

Advancing Solutions Through Collective Action

The recent Inside Safe operations spearheaded by Mayor Karen Bass signify a proactive approach to addressing homelessness in Los Angeles. Through collaboration, coordination, and targeted interventions, the city aims to not only provide immediate relief to individuals living in encampments but also to pave the way for sustainable solutions to homelessness. As the city continues its efforts, the commitment of leaders like Mayor Bass and Councilwoman Rodriguez remains instrumental in driving progress and effecting positive change in the lives of Angelenos experiencing homelessness.
