LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Plans for the transformation of the Mirage into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas have been unveiled through permits obtained by NEWS.ORG 5. The transition, set to commence on July 17, will mark the end of an era for the Mirage and usher in a new era of entertainment along the iconic Las Vegas Strip.
Demolition and Construction Plans Unveiled
The Mirage’s closure will pave the way for a series of significant changes. The highlight of the new development is the construction of a nearly 700-foot-tall guitar-shaped hotel, set to become a prominent feature on the Strip. Demolition of existing structures, including the famed Mirage volcano, will precede the construction phase. Permits indicate that asbestos removal may be necessary before demolition commences.
Construction is anticipated to span approximately 18 months, though specific timelines have not yet been disclosed. The project will unfold in three phases:
Phase One: Demolition
The initial phase will involve the dismantling of existing structures, making room for the new development.
Phase Two: Construction
Following demolition, the construction of the guitar-shaped marquee and interior hotel rooms will take place. This phase will also involve the excavation of a deep foundation to support the towering structure.
Phase Three: Surface Improvements
The final phase will focus on enhancing the surrounding areas with new walkways and landscaping elements, ensuring a seamless integration into the vibrant Las Vegas landscape.
Mixed Reactions from Locals
The announcement of the Mirage’s closure has elicited a range of responses from Las Vegas residents. While some express disappointment at bidding farewell to an iconic landmark, others are eager to embrace the changes and look forward to the future.
Former Mirage executive Alan Feldman encapsulated this sentiment, acknowledging the bittersweet nature of the transition. He remarked, As much as I would love for The Mirage to last forever, I’ve got to go back to that fundamental belief that we do well when we’re willing to part with some of the things in the past and try new things. Am I sad the volcano is going to go away? Of course. But I’ve got to tell you, I’m pretty excited about a huge guitar-shaped hotel coming right to the Strip. That’s pretty cool.
Conclusion: Embracing Change in Las Vegas
The transformation of the Mirage into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino symbolizes the ever-evolving landscape of Las Vegas entertainment. While nostalgic sentiments may linger, the anticipation of new possibilities underscores the city’s spirit of innovation and reinvention.
