In a concerning incident in Cambridge, Ohio, a mother has been apprehended and her children removed from her residence following a distressing event where a 2-year-old child suffered exposure to and overdose from amphetamines.
The Incident and Response
The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office received notification from social workers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital regarding the treatment of a 2-year-old child for amphetamine exposure and overdose. The child was initially taken to OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge before being airlifted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for further treatment.
During the child’s critical condition, deputies were unable to establish contact with the mother. Concerned for the child’s welfare, deputies commenced a search for the mother, eventually locating her at a residence. Upon entering the home, deputies discovered three other small children, including a 13-month-old and 1-month-old twins.
Removal of Children and Legal Actions
Recognizing the unsuitable conditions at the home, deputies summoned case workers from children services and removed all three children from the premises. Subsequently, both the mother and her boyfriend were interviewed at the sheriff’s office. Following the interview and evidence processing, the mother, identified as Brittany Nicole-Lynn Colvin, 29, of Byesville, was taken into custody.
Colvin faces charges of endangering children and tampering with evidence, both of which are third-degree felonies. She was scheduled for a bond hearing at the Cambridge Municipal Court.
