The $14 million transformation initiative aims to enhance JCOC’s capacity to serve the community, with the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Monday, May 20, at 2 p.m.
Features of the New Campus
The upcoming campus is poised to offer vital amenities, including:
- 38 Affordable-Housing Units: Addressing the critical need for accessible housing in the area.
- Enhanced Dining Hall: A more inviting and flexible space designed to cater to individuals grappling with food insecurities.
- New Administrative Offices: Supporting JCOC’s Rapid Rehousing and other supportive programs effectively.
A Legacy of Service
For over 37 years, JCOC has been a beacon of hope for the unhoused and food-insecure individuals in Virginia Beach. Todd Walker, Executive Director of JCOC, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, emphasizing the expansion of services to reach more underserved individuals.
Honoring Generosity
The new campus will bear the names of notable benefactors:
- Betty Brown Chidester Campus: Named in memory of Dr. Paul Chidester’s late wife, honoring their $2 million donation.
- Joan Brock Building: Recognizing philanthropist Joan Brock’s significant contribution of $1 million.
Community Support Drives Progress
The project’s realization owes much to the generosity of various stakeholders. Allison McDuffie, Chair of the Help.Hope.Healing Capital Campaign, highlighted the collective effort of individuals, corporations, foundations, and governmental bodies, emphasizing the community’s commitment to aiding the vulnerable.
