The North Carolina Forest Service has disclosed the origin of the extensive fire that ravaged Sauratown Mountain toward the end of 2023, attributing it to an escaped campfire, according to recent reports.

Officials stated that the fire, which spanned from November 19, 2023, to December 8, 2023, was accidental in nature, with the individuals responsible for igniting the blaze still unidentified. The incident resulted in significant damage, with total costs estimated at $250,792.
