Yolo County Animal Services is set to host an adoption event for shelter dogs, following a statewide initiative that facilitated nearly 200 animal welfare organizations in California offering free pet adoptions.
Event Details and Location
The adoption event is scheduled for Saturday, running from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will take place at the HIVE Tasting Room in Woodland, specifically located at 1221 Harter Ave, approximately two miles south of the Sugarfield neighborhood.
Yolo County Animal Services’ Adoption Efforts
Yolo County Animal Services (YCAS) reported a successful adoption year in 2023, with over 1,500 animals finding new homes from its facilities. Building on this momentum, YCAS aims to further increase adoptions in 2024, leveraging support from volunteers and the local community.
Responding to Nationwide Trends
YCAS was among the adoption centers participating in California’s inaugural Adopt-a-Pet-Day, organized by the California Animal Welfare Association. This event was in response to the nationwide trend of increased animal intakes in shelters.
Addressing Shelter Overcrowding
Jill Tucker, CEO of CalAnimals, highlighted the challenges faced by California shelters due to overcrowding. She emphasized the need for action as shelters struggle with a surplus of animals entering compared to those finding homes.
Services and Operation Hours
Yolo County Animal Services operates Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Walk-in adoption days are available on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Besides adoption services, the agency also offers pet redemptions, rescues, licensing, and information on low-cost vaccinations.
