Kansas City, Mo. – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is probing into an officer-involved shooting incident that resulted in the death of an individual late Friday night in Kansas City, Kansas.

Stolen Vehicle Sparks Investigation

KCKPD reported that a silver Hyundai Sonata had been reported stolen earlier on Friday. Later in the evening, law enforcement received information indicating the stolen vehicle’s presence near South 7th Street Trafficway and Interstate 35.

Officer Responds to the Scene

Following a citizen’s report around 11:10 p.m., alleging the stolen car’s sighting at the 1500 block of 7th Street Trafficway, an officer from KCKPD arrived at the location. Upon arrival, three individuals purportedly fled the scene as the officer approached the stolen vehicle.

Pursuit and Exchange of Fire

Preliminary findings suggest that the officer pursued the three individuals up the southbound entrance ramp of Interstate 35. During the pursuit, one of the suspects took cover in nearby dense foliage and fired gunshots at the officer. In response, the officer discharged their firearm, striking the individual multiple times.

Outcome and Investigation

Despite attempts to render aid, the wounded individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Fortunately, the officer involved in the altercation escaped unharmed. As part of the investigation, authorities discovered two handguns in the vicinity.
