SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon State Fire Marshal has taken delivery of several new water tenders as part of the agency’s Engine Program, which aims to enhance the state’s firefighting capabilities amidst increasing wildfire threats. These water tenders will be distributed to various fire services across Oregon, representing a significant investment in community safety and firefighting effectiveness.

Enhancing Firefighting Capabilities

The Engine Program, funded through 2021’s Senate Bill 762, aims to ensure that Oregon’s structural fire services have the necessary tools to effectively combat wildfires and protect lives and property. The new water tenders are specialized vehicles designed to transport water to wildland fire engines operating at the front lines of fires. Their ability to efficiently supply water makes them essential in managing and controlling wildfires, which have become increasingly frequent and severe in recent years.

Initial Distribution to Fire Districts

The first recipients of the new water tenders are the Amity Fire District, Winston-Dillard Fire District, and Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District. This delivery is the first installment of a larger purchase that includes 76 pieces of equipment: 26 Type 3 engines, 20 Type 6 engines, and 30 water tenders. The remaining equipment is expected to arrive throughout the summer, gradually boosting the firefighting capabilities of various districts across the state.
