Durham, NC – The parents of an infant at the center of an Amber Alert issued last week have been arrested and made their first court appearance in Durham on Tuesday.
Arrest and Court Appearance
Destinee Ariel Cothran and Justin Lee Brown were apprehended at SureStay Plus Hotel on Hillsborough Road in Durham. They made their initial court appearances on Tuesday.
Charges and Bond
Cothran faces several charges in Orange County, as well as misdemeanor trespassing and resisting arrest charges in Durham County. She was given a $2,000 bond for the Durham County charges. Brown also faces trespassing and resisting arrest charges in Durham County. He was granted a $2,000 bond for the arrest-related charges.
Additional Charges
Brown is also facing outstanding charges in Alamance and Granville County.
Incident Details
Brown attempted to barricade the door of their hotel room with shoe strings, leading officers to break the glass window of the room to gain entry.
Amber Alert Resolution
The Amber Alert was issued on Feb. 26 after eight-day-old Jaxton Brown was reported missing in Chapel Hill. The infant was found safe, but alone, later that night in Durham.
Ongoing Investigation
As of early Tuesday afternoon, neither parent is facing charges of kidnapping related to the Amber Alert.
