A pedestrian sustained serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle on a street in University Heights, according to the San Diego Police Department.

At 10:42 p.m. on Wednesday, a 41-year-old man was standing along the north shoulder of 1400 Washington St., as reported by SDPD Officer David O’Brien. The pedestrian then entered the roadway for reasons yet to be determined and walked into the path of a 2014 Toyota Prius driven by a 27-year-old man, resulting in the collision.
Injuries
The pedestrian was swiftly transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. He suffered from multiple spinal fractures, closed fractures to his left lower leg, and a laceration to his forehead, stated O’Brien. Fortunately, his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening.
Investigation
The SDPD Traffic Division took charge of the investigation into the collision. Officer O’Brien confirmed that alcohol was not a contributing factor in the incident.
