Before his stay, Tux, a mixed-breed dog, was depicted as healthy and vibrant in videos, enjoying time in the backyard pool. However, following a three-night boarding period at the VCA Pet Resort and Medical Center in Coral Springs starting on May 1st, Tux’s health took a drastic turn.
Sudden Paralysis
Massaro recounts receiving concerning text messages from the facility, reporting Tux’s deteriorating condition. Initially limping on one leg, Tux soon lost control of his hind legs entirely, leaving him unable to walk, control his bladder, or bowels.
Seeking Answers
Despite efforts to understand Tux’s sudden paralysis, Massaro and his family remain perplexed. The VCA Pet Resort suggested transferring Tux to a neurologist, but logistical challenges and upfront costs deterred them. Instead, they opted to retrieve Tux and seek alternative medical opinions.
Medical Diagnosis
Upon examination by another neurologist, MRI results revealed spinal concerns, attributed to a potential disc injury blocking blood supply, likely caused by trauma.
VCA’s Response
NBC 6 contacted the VCA regarding the incident. In response, a spokesperson emphasized their commitment to pet care and asserted ongoing communication with Massaro. They highlighted recommendations and diagnostic efforts made during Tux’s stay and offered continued support for Tux’s care.
Seeking Support
Confronted with unanswered questions and mounting medical expenses, the Massaro family turned to crowdfunding to alleviate financial burdens associated with Tux’s treatment.
