Arlington police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing incident at an apartment complex near Green Oaks Blvd and Collins Street. Upon arrival, they encountered a man wielding a knife, prompting a confrontation that resulted in the man’s death.
Confrontation and Shooting
According to Arlington Police Lt. Courtney White, officers observed a man with a knife peeking out of a window. When the man emerged from the apartment, officers instructed him to drop the weapon. Instead, he charged at the officers, leading to shots being fired.
During the altercation, the man fell to the ground but managed to flee. Pursuing officers confronted him again as he raised the knife and advanced towards them. The same officer discharged their weapon once more. Subsequently, the man attempted to escape into a nearby field but was subdued by a different officer’s taser.
Aftermath and Investigation
Despite efforts to restrain him, police discovered that the man had sustained gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities have not found evidence supporting the initial 911 caller’s claim of a fatal stabbing, raising the possibility that the deceased may have been the caller himself.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident.
