BERKELEY, Calif. – Richard Lyons, former dean of the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and associate vice chancellor for innovation & entrepreneurship, has been appointed as the new chancellor of UC Berkeley, succeeding Chancellor Carol Christ. His tenure will commence on July 1, 2024.
Unanimous Approval by UC Board of Regents
The UC Board of Regents unanimously voted for Lyons’ appointment during a special meeting held at UCLA. Alongside the appointment, they approved his annual salary of $946,450, which includes additional private funds totaling $220,000.

Regent chair Richard Leib highlighted Lyons’ values, emphasizing his commitment to questioning the status quo, fostering confidence without attitude, and prioritizing students above personal interests.
