A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday morning as a road rage altercation turned deadly on the I-80/94 in northwest Indiana.
Suspect Apprehended, Victim Identified
According to Indiana State Police, the confrontation occurred on westbound I-80/94 near Ripley Street. Authorities responded to a call around 4 a.m. reporting a road rage incident involving a man who subsequently pulled over on I-65, approximately two miles south of the scene, to await police assistance.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a man fatally shot while seated in his vehicle. The victim was identified as Mark Brant, aged 55, hailing from Chesterton, Indiana. He succumbed to a gunshot wound, as confirmed by the Lake County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Indiana State Police Sergeant Glen Fifield provided details, stating, So one of the individuals called to say he had been involved in a road rage incident. These two vehicles had a confrontation. The original caller is in our custody right now with detectives.
Investigation and Closure
Law enforcement swiftly responded to the incident, shutting down the roadway for nearly four hours to conduct a thorough investigation. Authorities determined the crash and the road rage altercation to be interconnected.
The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently in custody at the Lake County Jail. Charges against the individual are pending as the investigation progresses.
