By encouraging participation in a recently launched survey, city officials aim to evaluate the existing understanding, effectiveness, and requirements related to renter’s protections across Sacramento. The insights gathered from this survey will be instrumental in assessing how the program can better serve residents and inform potential adjustments to the Tenant Protection and Relief Act.

Survey Details

The survey, available in both English and Spanish, is designed to be completed in approximately five minutes. It covers a range of topics, including resident awareness of the Tenant Protection Program, types of residences, and utilization of available services. Residents are urged to complete the survey by the deadline of May 31.

Sacramento Program Specialist Vicki Riggins Medina emphasized the importance of participation, stating, “Participating in this survey will help our City team assess whether modifications are needed for the Tenant Protection Program to better serve those renting.”

Understanding Tenant Protections

The Tenant Protection and Relief Act, enacted by the Sacramento City Council in 2019, serves to safeguard renters from exorbitant rent hikes and unjust evictions. As a direct outcome of this legislation, the Tenant Protection Program was established to provide additional support to renters.

The program extends its coverage to most apartments and duplexes constructed before February 1, 1995, as well as mobile home rentals and single-occupancy rooms in hotels rented for periods longer than 30 days. However, single-family dwellings and rental units in condominiums and stock cooperatives are exempt from its provisions.
