San Diego residents affected by the January 22nd flood, including Elena Burgos and Gabino Perez, are voicing their dissatisfaction with the support they’ve received, particularly concerning meals provided by the county.
Promised Support Not Fully Delivered
At a recent Board of Supervisors meeting, the county pledged $3 million to provide three meals a day to flood victims until May 11th. However, Burgos and Perez, currently residing in hotels, claim they have not received the promised meals consistently.
Mixed Experiences with Support
While some residents like Ashley Manzano report receiving adequate food support, others like Tanay Jackson at the Days Inn downtown have experienced limited provision, with meals often consisting of minimal items like pastries and juice.
Challenges in Implementation
The county acknowledges challenges in promptly delivering meals to all affected individuals. Efforts are underway to engage non-profits and private companies in providing food services. The Harvey Family Foundation has received funding to distribute meals in select locations, with negotiations ongoing to expand coverage.
Continued Efforts Needed to Support Flood Victims
Despite efforts to address the needs of flood victims, discrepancies in meal provision persist, highlighting the importance of continued coordination and swift action to ensure all affected individuals receive necessary support.
