Severe storms that struck southern Indiana Tuesday night spawned at least one tornado, with residents in Sellersburg and Memphis capturing footage of the destructive funnel clouds on their cell phones.
Tornado Touches Down in Sellersburg and Memphis
Videos shared by residents on social media platforms depicted the tornado’s terrifying presence in the Perry Crossing and Deer Lake areas near Memphis. Similarly, sightings and recordings of the tornado were reported in Sellersburg, with some images showing the tornado looming near Covered Bridge Golf Club.
Minimal Damage Reported, Clark County Spared
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the storms as of 11 p.m. Tuesday, and Clark County REMC indicated only a few power outages. Initial assessments by the Clark County Emergency Management Agency revealed storm damage to eight homes in the Lewis and Clark subdivision in Memphis. However, no residents were displaced, and there were no reports of injuries.
Ongoing Assessment and Preparedness
Gavan Hebner of the Clark County Emergency Management Agency stated that officials would return to the affected neighborhoods Wednesday morning to conduct further assessments in daylight. As the situation develops, updates will be provided.
More Storms Expected in the Region
Residents are advised to remain vigilant as more storms are anticipated in the Kentuckiana area overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
