The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. at the University Gateway Building parking structure in the 4700 block of S. Maryland Parkway, just across the street from the UNLV campus.

According to police reports, the victim of the shooting was transported to a local hospital and has since been released. Notably, the victim was not associated with the university in any capacity.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene heading south away from the UNLV campus. Following the incident, a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents of the YOU apartments within the Gateway Building as authorities conducted their search. However, the order was lifted by 1:15 a.m. on Sunday.
