Las Vegas, Nev. – Authorities are on the lookout for a suspect following a shooting incident near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) campus on Saturday night.
The shooting occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. at the University Gateway Building parking structure, situated in the 4700 block of S. Maryland Parkway, just across the street from the UNLV campus. The incident prompted police to issue a shelter-in-place order for residents of the YOU apartments located at 4700 South Maryland Parkway, as one suspect remained at large.
Victim Hospitalized, Suspect at Large
According to police reports, the victim of the shooting was transported to a nearby hospital and subsequently discharged. Notably, authorities confirmed that the victim had no affiliation with the university.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the area, heading south away from the UNLV campus. Despite efforts to locate the individual, the suspect remains at large.
Shelter-in-Place Order and Subsequent Lift
In response to the ongoing search for the suspect, a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents of the YOU apartments within the Gateway Building. The order was enforced as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the residents. However, the shelter-in-place directive was lifted at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Sunday.
Ongoing Investigation
University Police, in collaboration with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident. Authorities have assured the public that there is currently no imminent threat to the UNLV campus.
