In a recent court decision, two siblings from Tucson, Cory Konold and Felicia Konold, have been sentenced for their involvement in the January 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol. The sentencing reflects their pleaded guilt to obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder and aiding and abetting in November.
Sentences Handed Down
Cory Konold, 28, has received a 30-day prison sentence along with two years of supervised release. His sister, Felicia Konold, 29, was sentenced to 45 days in prison, also accompanied by two years of supervised release.
The March with the Proud Boys
The Konolds participated in a march alongside a large group of Proud Boys, traversing the National Mall towards the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Their journey led them to a fenced-off perimeter guarded by Capitol Police officers.
Breaching Barriers and Defying Law Enforcement
At approximately 1 p.m., members of the crowd breached barriers, with the Konolds among the first to cross. They continued past additional barricades, reaching the Capitol’s Lower West Plaza. Despite law enforcement instructing them to disperse, the Konolds remained in the area.
Illegal Entry into the Capitol
Ultimately, the siblings found themselves at the base of the Capitol Building and onto the Upper West Terrace. At 2:25 p.m., they illegally entered the building through the Senate Wing Door. Inside, Cory Konold took possession of a USCP riot helmet, later turning it over to law enforcement.
Social Media Post-Event
Following the Capitol breach, Felicia Konold posted on social media, expressing astonishment at the influence they had on the day’s events. She mentioned people following her lead and the shared accomplishment, stating, “I never could have imagined having that much of an influence on the events that unfolded today. Dude, people were willing to follow. You f— lead, and everyone had my back, dude… We f— did it.”
Conclusion
The sentencing of the Konold siblings underscores the legal consequences individuals face for their actions during the January 6 Capitol breach. The case highlights the involvement of various groups and the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining order during such events.
