Eleven men from the South Bay area are facing charges of racketeering conspiracy in connection with a string of violent crimes tied to the Nortenos street gang, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California.

The indictment, unveiled on Thursday, accuses the individuals of participating in a series of criminal activities aimed at advancing the interests of the Salinas Acosta Plaza Nortenos, which is associated with the notorious prison gang Nuestra Familia. U.S. Attorney Ismail Ramsey emphasized the severity of the allegations, stating that they depict a group with a blatant disregard for human life and a propensity for extreme violence.

The crimes outlined in the indictment span a range of violent acts, including murders, attempted murders, and arson. Prosecutors allege that these actions were undertaken to further the gang’s financial interests and demonstrate loyalty, with beatings serving as initiation rites and death as punishment for disloyalty.
