Oklahoma City police are on the hunt for suspects involved in a brutal assault that occurred on Sunday morning in South Oklahoma City, leaving one man severely injured and abandoned at the scene.

A group of teenagers has been apprehended in connection with the incident, but authorities believe there may be additional individuals involved.

The assault took place on May 26th near a 7/11 gas station at the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and Southwest 59th Street. Tilman Shannon, the victim, was reportedly confronted by several individuals in a vehicle, according to court documents.
Surveillance footage revealed a group of teens yelling and threatening Shannon before physically assaulting him. Despite attempts to flee, Shannon was cornered and viciously beaten near the gas station’s dumpster.
Police Investigation
Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Dillon Quirk stated that surveillance footage from the gas station depicted approximately nine individuals surrounding Shannon during the attack. Particularly disturbing actions were captured on video, some of which were shared on social media platforms.
Social Media Evidence
One suspect, Veronica Benavente, allegedly live-streamed part of the assault on her Instagram account. In the video, Benavente can be heard using racial slurs and expletives while the group taunts and attacks Shannon. The attackers reportedly mocked Shannon’s medical condition, even pulling out his colostomy bag during the assault.

Residents in the area expressed shock and concern over the incident. While some noted that the neighborhood is not typically known for such violence, others mentioned the presence of gangs in the area.

Shannon sustained severe injuries during the assault and was transported to OU Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, he is expected to survive his injuries.
