TUCSON, Ariz. – Southern Arizona Search and Rescue (SASR) teams sprang into action to save a hiker who sustained serious injuries after a 25-foot fall in Canyon Del Salto. The incident unfolded on Saturday, March 16th, prompting a swift response from emergency crews.
Coordination and Extraction Efforts
Upon receiving the distress call, SASR swiftly mobilized, joined by support from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS). The injured hiker had suffered a head injury during the fall, necessitating urgent intervention.
A Search and Rescue deputy, supported by a DPS helicopter, was lowered into the canyon to initiate the rescue operation. Simultaneously, other team members descended using rappelling techniques to reach the victim.
Airlift to Medical Care
The injured hiker was carefully secured onto a spine board before being airlifted to a nearby hospital for prompt medical attention. The collaborative efforts of SASR and DPS ensured the swift and safe extraction of the individual from the rugged terrain of Canyon Del Salto.
