A 17-year-old is currently in recovery after sustaining gunshot wounds in a triple shooting incident that took place at an apartment complex in Southeast Austin last month. Neil Raymond Melendrez Jr., one of the victims, recounted the harrowing experience, expressing his uncertainty about his survival.
According to reports, the shooting occurred on the evening of March 3 at the Douglas Landing Apartments, an area known for its high crime rate, including instances of drugs and violence. Melendrez Jr., who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including injuries to his arm and back, was identified as the primary target by his mother, Heather Gayton.
Despite ongoing investigations, Austin police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the case. Concerned for her son’s safety, Gayton has relocated him for recovery, as advised by authorities. Melendrez Jr. is currently undergoing rehabilitation due to spinal injuries incurred during the incident.
As Melendrez Jr. continues his journey toward recovery, his mother has initiated a fundraising campaign to alleviate the financial burdens associated with his medical care.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the motives behind it remain unclear, emphasizing the pressing need for thorough investigations and swift justice for the victims.
