Louis Phillip Reyes Captured After Evading Authorities
Louis Phillip Reyes, 32, a convicted felon, has been apprehended in Mexico and returned to Texas to face trial. He was captured in Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, Mexico, after evading authorities for a week. Reyes fled to avoid facing trial in Williamson County for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Evading Trial and Capture
Reyes, facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, fled Texas to escape his trial in Williamson County. Despite initially being present during jury selection, he failed to appear before the commencement of testimony. Consequently, the jury sentenced him to 45 years in prison in absentia after convicting him on March 13, 2024.
International Cooperation Leads to Apprehension
The fugitive investigation, led by the Austin-based Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, involved local, state, and federal agencies. Their efforts determined that Reyes had fled to Mexico. On March 20, he was detained for an immigration violation near the border of Guatemala and subsequently deported back to the United States the following day.
