A theft at the Florin Certified Farmers Market has left the organization, Alchemist CDC, reeling as essential supplies were stolen from their operations this week.
Equipment Stolen from Shipping Container
The non-profit organization Alchemist CDC, responsible for running the weekly market, reported that a shipping container storing vital equipment was targeted by thieves around 5:04 a.m. on Monday. The container was situated at the Florin Light Rail Station near Florin Road and Indian Lane, the venue for the farmers’ market.
Significant Loss Incurred
The stolen equipment and supplies amount to a considerable loss, estimated to be over $5,000. Security footage shared by the non-profit showed the shipping container on a trailer attached to a white pickup truck, indicating a planned and coordinated theft.
Cooperation with Law Enforcement
Shannin Stein, a representative of Alchemist CDC, stated that they are collaborating closely with the Sacramento Police Department in their investigation. They urge the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the recovery of the stolen items and the apprehension of the suspects.
Hope for Larger Impact
Stein expressed hope that the cooperation with law enforcement and businesses sharing camera footage would not only lead to the recovery of their property but also help dismantle a potentially larger criminal operation.
Market Continues Despite Setback
Despite the setback, the Florin Certified Farmers Market continued its operations as usual on Thursday. The market runs every Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon on 3001 Florin Road.
Other Markets by Alchemist CDC
In addition to the Florin market, Alchemist CDC operates a weekly farmers market in Rancho Cordova at the Sunrise Light Rail Station and plans to launch another market in Sacramento on Meadowview Road.
Meadowview Farmers Market Opening Soon
The grand opening for the Meadowview Farmers Market is scheduled for June 9 at 3501 Meadowview Road in Sacramento, demonstrating the organization’s resilience and commitment to providing fresh produce to the community.
