Chester County, PA – Three Philadelphia men are facing charges after a brazen home invasion in Berwyn, Chester County. The arrests follow a lengthy investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies and the FBI.
Details of the Incident
District Attorney Christopher de Barenna-Sarobe announced the arrest of Julio Mendoza, Louis Armstrong, and Axel Reyes. The incident occurred on January 8th when armed men, dressed in black and wearing masks, entered a couple’s home on South Leopard Road around 2 a.m.
The intruders threatened and kidnapped the couple, forcing them to take the burglars to their business to steal more valuables. Afterward, the victims were returned to their home, where they were bound and left in an attic using cords from drapes. The perpetrators fled in the couple’s Mercedes.
Modus Operandi
De Barenna-Sarobe described the audacity of the criminals, who even used a photo of the victim’s daughter to further intimidate the couple. The defendants threatened to harm the victims whenever they moved slowly or resisted, creating a climate of fear.
Fortunately, the couple escaped physical harm and managed to alert the authorities after breaking free from their restraints.
Stolen Items and Arrest
The perpetrators made off with approximately $27,000 in cash, high-end jewelry and clothing, and antique firearms dating back to the 1860s. Following a tip, investigators located the couple’s car in Northeast Philadelphia shortly after the crime.
Through meticulous analysis of video footage, DNA, and fingerprint evidence, law enforcement identified a house nearby where the stolen items were found. Additionally, cell phone images depicted the suspects posing with the stolen goods, including one photo showing a defendant flaunting cash while lying on the couple’s car.
Message to Criminals
De Barenna-Sarobe issued a stern warning to would-be criminals, emphasizing that law enforcement will vigorously pursue perpetrators who target suburban communities. He urged criminals to reconsider targeting such areas, emphasizing the determination of law enforcement agencies to apprehend offenders.
