In a disturbing incident, two puppies were discovered abandoned in the parking lot of a veterinary office in San Bernardino last week. One of the puppies, a Labrador retriever mix, was found with severe burns, leading officials to investigate a possible case of animal cruelty.
The incident occurred on April 4, when officers from the Animal Services Department responded to a call regarding the abandoned puppies at a location on West Highland Avenue. According to a news release from the city, the dogs had been left in the parking lot overnight.
Upon arrival, one of the puppies was found to have suffered burns to its face, ears, and body. The severity of the injuries necessitated immediate treatment by a veterinarian. The uninjured puppy was cleared, while the burned puppy, affectionately named Ember by the veterinary team, required hospitalization due to the extent of her injuries.
Disturbing images released by the city revealed the extent of Ember’s injuries, including burns to her eyes, ears, groin area, and at least one paw. Authorities suspect that the injuries were deliberately inflicted, possibly by fire, based on the circumstances in which the puppies were found.
Despite the severity of her injuries, Ember’s condition has shown signs of improvement over the past week. A team of veterinary specialists is diligently working to save her, and arrangements have been made for her ongoing care with an experienced foster caretaker once she is released from the hospital.
The city officials are urging anyone with information about the case, including details about the dog’s owner or potential suspects, to come forward. Individuals can contact the San Bernardino Animal Services Department at (909) 384-1304 and reference case No. A563955.
This disturbing incident highlights the importance of vigilance in protecting animals from harm and underscores the need for swift action against perpetrators of animal cruelty.
