The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Tornado Warning for southeastern Cass County and northwestern Bates County until 4:45 p.m.

Just after 4:20 p.m., the NWS reported a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado located over Archie, near Adrian, Missouri, moving northeast.

Residents in Cass or Bates counties are urged to take immediate precautions by seeking shelter in the basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoiding windows.

Tornado Watch for Kansas City Area

The NWS has extended a Tornado Watch for the entire Kansas City area until 10 p.m. This watch encompasses various counties on both the Kansas and Missouri sides of the metropolitan area.

Counties Under Tornado Watch:

• Kansas Side: Johnson, Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Franklin, Linn, and Miami.
• Missouri Side: Jackson, Platte, Cass, Clay, Henry, Johnson, Clinton, Nodaway, Lafayette, Ray, Pettis, Caldwell, Dekalb, and Buchanan.

Severe Weather Alerts Across the Region

In addition to the Tornado Watch, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 4 p.m. for several counties in both Kansas and Missouri. This watch includes areas such as Jackson, Platte, Buchanan, Caldwell, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Johnson, Ray, DeKalb in Missouri, and Johnson, Wyandotte, Miami, and Linn in Kansas.

Expected Severe Weather Conditions:

Severe storms are anticipated to move into the metro area Tuesday afternoon, bringing with them high winds, hail, and the possibility of quick spin-up tornadoes.

The severe weather threat for Kansas City is expected to diminish by 6 p.m. as the storms progress eastward. Storms should clear the viewing area completely by 7-8 p.m. this evening.
