On Saturday morning, a dramatic scene unfolded near the Wilson and Greene County line as a North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper engaged in a high-speed pursuit. The incident occurred on I-587 when the trooper observed a burgundy 2023 Kia Carnival traveling at 90 mph in a 70-mph zone, according to radar readings.

Attempting to enforce speed regulations, the trooper signaled the driver to pull over, but the driver refused to comply. What began as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into a chase as the Kia continued to evade the trooper.

The pursuit intensified as the vehicle exited onto US-258 toward Farmville. Suddenly, the driver halted and fled on foot through a residential area and into an open field. The situation took a perilous turn when the suspect stopped and brandished a firearm, pointing it at the trooper.

Following the altercation, Kinard was transported to ECU Vidant Hospital for medical treatment. Upon securing the scene, authorities recovered a firearm, illegal drugs, and drug paraphernalia. Charges against Kinard are pending as the investigation unfolds.
