The Dallas Police Department has provided new insights into a recent incident where an undercover officer was shot during a chase. The incident involved 17-year-old Jaheart Nickelberry, described by authorities as a known gang member, and his companion, 17-year-old D’Adrian Starling. Here’s what we know:
Arrest and Charges
D’Adrian Starling was apprehended and charged with evading arrest after fleeing from police on March 14. He was found in a vehicle with Jaheart Nickelberry at the time of the incident.
Reckless Driving and Shooting
According to investigators, Nickelberry was driving recklessly in a blue Camaro when he noticed an undercover officer trailing them. In response, Nickelberry performed a U-turn and fired five shots at Officer Tyler Morris’ vehicle, striking him once in the hip.
Chase and Capture
Following the shooting, a police pursuit ensued, lasting approximately 10 minutes until the Camaro entered an apartment complex off Chesterfield. Three of the six individuals inside the vehicle, including Nickelberry, Starling, and a 15-year-old female, fled the scene. Both Starling and the 15-year-old are facing charges of evading arrest, while Nickelberry faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault.

Authorities have indicated that further charges may be filed relating to other offenses that occurred earlier in the evening.
Officer’s Condition
As of the latest update, Officer Tyler Morris remains hospitalized in stable condition, recuperating from the gunshot wound he sustained during the incident.
